The Vintage Grey Tablecloth is made from 100% stonewashed linen, woven by an outstanding mill in Northern Italy and finished in our own atelier in Follina, in the Prosecco Hills.
The color is a warm grey that sits between taupe and pale stone. It doesn’t chill a table — it steadies it. Soft from the very first use, every cloth is hand-cut and finished with mitered corners.
Available rectangular, square and round, in standard and custom sizes up to 106″ (270 cm). This is our base cloth: under an exclusive Magnolia or Nopal print, under Moma, or on its own with Grigio Perla napkins. Not sure what goes with what? We’ll put the combination together for you.

A warm grey, like sun-warmed stone
Grey has an unfair reputation: people assume it’s cold, so they skip it. This one isn’t. It leans toward earth rather than blue — the grey of old country walls after rain, the kind that sits well next to weathered wood and terracotta.
The stonewashing softens the color and creates subtle variations across the surface, so the cloth arrives looking as though it has already been used and already been loved. In daylight it lightens toward stone; in the evening, in a smaller room, it deepens toward taupe. Same tablecloth, never quite the same table.
It’s also why, in the shop, when someone has no idea where to start, we almost always start here.
The fabric: pure washed linen from Northern Italy
The cloth is made from 100% linen, woven by an outstanding mill in Northern Italy.
A washed linen tablecloth in this color has a practical advantage nobody mentions: between the neutral tone and the natural irregularity of the fiber, a crease or a water mark barely registers. It’s a forgiving cloth — one you can put on the table on a Wednesday without thinking twice.
We choose this linen for the quality of its weave and because it improves with age: the more you wash it, the softer it gets. The drape is fluid, relaxed and slightly uneven from the first use. Creases aren’t flaws: they’re the character of washed linen, and they’re what makes a table feel welcoming rather than formal.
The workmanship: hand-cut, mitered corners
Every cloth is cut by hand, one at a time, in our atelier in Follina.
The finish is mitered corners: the hems meet precisely at the corner, with no bulky overlap. It’s a tailoring detail — the kind you only notice when it’s missing. On a solid color like this one it shows even more, because there’s no pattern pulling your eye away from the edge.

We don’t work in closed collections. We work in combinations. Magnolia and Nopal are exclusive designs, drawn in our own atelier; our solids and some printed fabrics come from the Italian mills we select one by one. It’s mixing them that produces a table that doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

The solid-color set
The simplest route, and it never misses.

Layering: what to put on top
A shorter cloth laid over a solid base leaves a frame of color showing around the edge: two fabrics, one table. Warm grey is the most versatile base we make, because it absorbs any print without ever competing with it.
With the Magnolia Allover Tablecloth, our own exclusive creation — large watercolor magnolia flowers in dusty pink, deep carmine and cream white on natural linen. Grey underneath, the shorter Magnolia on top: the grey works as a neutral frame that lets the flowers take over. Finish with white or ivory ceramics, clear crystal, dusty pink or natural napkins.
With the Nopal Tablecloth, our own exclusive creation — the botanical cactus design inspired by San Miguel de Allende, in bright green and gold yellow, with grey sketches in the background. Those greys are the bridge: the taupe ground picks them up, and the green and gold stay the protagonists. Finish with olive green ceramics or natural stoneware and colored glassware.
With the Moma Tablecloth, on fabric from Tessitura Toscana, finished in our atelier — a contemporary composition of ink-like graphic marks with touches of blue, ocher, coral and sage green on a natural white ground. This is the unexpected one: the quiet of the grey keeps Moma’s graphic energy in check, and the table reads modern without turning loud.
Tableware, glass and centerpieces

For a quote we need three things: the shape of your table, the measurements of the top (or the diameter), and the drop you’d like. If you’re unsure about the drop, tell us — we’ll work it out.
Machine wash at 105 °F (40 °C). Do not tumble dry.
For a crisper table, steam iron while the linen is still slightly damp. For a more relaxed one, let it air dry and use it with its creases — this is a no-iron linen tablecloth, and on this color the creases show even less than on the others.

We do two things. In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections: exclusive prints like Magnolia and Nopal, hand cutting, mitered corners, sizes on request. And we select — one by one — the Italian mills we love: solid linen from Northern Italy, printed fabrics from Tessitura Toscana, the handlooms of the other weavers we work with.
They are Italian atelier table linens, but the real work is something else: bringing together fabrics made by different hands and making them work on the same table. We don’t sell closed collections. We build tables.

Is grey a warm or a cool color on the table? Warm, in this case. This grey leans earth, not blue — which is why it works with wood, terracotta and stone instead of chilling the room the way a concrete grey would. It shifts with the light, lighter by day and deeper in the evening, and screens affect how it looks online.
What color napkins go with a grey tablecloth? Almost anything — that’s the point of taupe. For tone on tone, solid color linen napkins in Grigio Perla. Sunset for a warm contrast, Cobalto for a cooler contemporary table, Verde Militare or Pino Mugo for fall. Natural or Panna if you’d rather the grey lead.
What should I put under a floral tablecloth? A neutral solid, and warm grey is the safest choice: it competes with nothing. A shorter printed cloth over the Vintage Grey base leaves a grey frame showing around the edge. It’s one of the combinations we suggest most often in the shop.
