The service we’ve always offered in the shop

In our shops in Follina and San Miguel de Allende, this is the best part of the job: taking a solid tablecloth, laying a printed runner across it, trying three different sets of napkins, and watching with the customer for the one that makes the table come alive.

We don’t work in closed collections. We work in combinations. Our Pansée print is an exclusive design, drawn in our own atelier; our solids and other prints come from the Italian mills we select one by one. It’s mixing them that produces a table that doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

That service doesn’t disappear online: send us the shape of your table and a couple of lines about how you picture it, and we’ll put together a pairing proposal for you.

The solid-color set

The simplest route, and it never misses.

• Napkins and runner in the same Sunset linen, for a tonal table — textural and quiet.
• Cream, Natural or Raw napkins to lift and lighten it.
• Military Green or Pine napkins for a natural contrast that works year-round, and especially at Christmas.
• Barolo or Purple napkins for a deeper, more dramatic evening table.

Layering: prints to mix and match

This is where it gets interesting. A shorter cloth laid over a solid base leaves a frame of color showing around the edge: two fabrics, one table.

With the Biloba Tablecloth, designed by Tessitura Toscana Telerie — African-inspired floral motifs in yellow, green and pumpkin. This is the warmest pairing we make: Sunset underneath, the shorter Biloba on top. Finish with natural ceramics, green or amber glass, dark wood, dried branches and flowers.

With the Medusa Tablecloth, also from Tessitura Toscana Telerie — for a warm coastal table, an alternative to the usual blue and white. Sunset’s terracotta echoes coral and the color of light on water at dusk. White or sand plates, clear crystal, aquamarine glass, pewter or silver flatware, and a few shells used sparingly.

With our exclusive Pansée print — pansies in blue, indigo, brown and ocher on a natural linen ground. The ocher in the design ties into Sunset; the blues supply the contrast. Three ways to use it: the Pansée Allover tablecloth layered on top, Pansée placemats set directly on the solid cloth, or the Pansée runner down the center, which lets the color underneath breathe.

Tableware, glass and centerpieces

• Tableware: white or ivory porcelain, sand-colored stoneware, olive green plates, handmade terracotta ceramics.
• Glass and metals: clear crystal, green or amber glass, antique silver, pewter, burnished brass.
• Centerpieces: olive branches, fresh herbs, cream dahlias, pomegranates, small citrus, dried flowers.
• Rooms: natural wood, ivory plaster, pale stone, sage green walls, terracotta floors.

With a color this expressive, the rest of the table can stay simple. The linen is already doing a lot.

We’ll come back with two or three concrete proposals, with the right products and the right measurements. It’s the service we’ve been offering in the shop for twenty years, and going online didn’t change it.

Standard sizes:

Made to measure: we make the Sunset Vintage in any length and any diameter, up to a maximum width or diameter of 106″ (270 cm) — which puts a genuine extra large tablecloth within reach for long farmhouse tables and big round ones alike. Lead times are confirmed at the time of order and are normally no more than 10 days.

For a quote we need three things: the shape of your table, the measurements of the top (or the diameter), and the drop you’d like. If you’re unsure about the drop, tell us — we’ll work it out.

Machine wash at 105 °F (40 °C). Do not tumble dry.

For a crisper table, steam iron while the linen is still slightly damp. For a more relaxed one, let it air dry and use it with its creases — this is a machine washable linen tablecloth that doesn’t need ironing, and that’s a large part of why people love it.

Avoid harsh detergents and bleach, which would alter the depth of the color.

La Bottega di Casa began in Follina, in the Prosecco Hills north of Venice. Since the early 2000s we’ve also had a shop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and we ship worldwide.

We do two things. In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections: exclusive prints, hand cutting, mitered corners, sizes on request. And we select — one by one — the Italian mills we love: solid linen from Northern Italy, the handlooms of Tessitura Pardi in Umbria, the jacquards of L’Arcolaio at the foot of the Gran Sasso.

That crossover is where the real work happens: bringing together fabrics made by different hands and making them work on the same table. We don’t sell closed collections. We build tables.

What is the Sunset Vintage Tablecloth made of? 100% stonewashed linen, woven by an outstanding mill in Northern Italy and finished in our atelier in Follina, near Treviso.

How would you describe the Sunset color? A deep, warm orange between terracotta, pumpkin and burnt orange. It shifts with the light — sunnier by day, more intense in the evening. Screens and device settings also affect how it looks online.

How do you mix a solid orange tablecloth with printed napkins? Beautifully, and it’s the easiest way to change your table without changing your tablecloth. With Sunset we’d suggest prints containing ocher, olive green or blue: Biloba and Medusa from Tessitura Toscana Telerie, or our own Pansée, layer beautifully over a warm ground like this one. If you prefer tone on tone, use napkins and a runner in the same solid linen.

Can I layer two tablecloths? Yes — it’s one of the combinations we suggest most often in the shop. A shorter printed cloth over the Sunset base leaves an orange frame showing around the edge.

Can I order a custom size? Yes. We make any length and any diameter up to a maximum width or diameter of 106″ (270 cm), normally within 10 days.

Does it need ironing? Not necessarily. Stonewashed linen can be used with its natural creases. If you’d like a smoother look, steam iron while the fabric is still slightly damp.

How do I wash it? Machine wash at 105 °F (40 °C), no tumble dryer and no bleach.
