The Fauna Crema Placemat is a reversible placemat made from 100% pure linen damask, woven in Umbria by Tessitura Pardi and crafted in Italy by La Bottega di Casa.
The butterfly motif is not printed: it is created directly through the weave of the linen threads. The double-face construction offers two interpretations of the same design. One side features cream butterflies against a natural raw linen ground, while the relationship between background and motif is reversed on the other.
When placing your order, you can choose which side you would like presented as the primary face. The finished placemat remains fully reversible and can be turned over whenever you want to change the look of your table.
Each placemat is cut from a different section of a continuous-pattern fabric. The placement and size of the butterflies may therefore vary slightly, making every piece unique.

A reversible placemat in natural tones
The Fauna Crema Placemat interprets the butterfly design through the subtle shades of cream and natural raw linen.
Its two faces show the same motif with a different balance between background and pattern. On one side, cream butterflies stand out softly against a raw linen ground. Turn the placemat over and the relationship between the two tones is reversed, creating a lighter and more uniform appearance.
The option selected when ordering indicates which side you would like presented as the primary face. Both sides remain fully visible and usable: simply turn the placemat over to give the table a slightly different atmosphere.
Butterflies woven into pure linen
The Fauna motif is neither printed nor applied to the surface. The butterflies take shape directly on the loom through the different interlacing of the linen threads.
The damask weave allows the background and design to reflect light differently. This subtle play of texture and light creates the two visual interpretations of the placemat and gives depth to the butterfly motif.
Because the design is part of the structure of the fabric, it will not disappear with washing. With use, pure linen gradually becomes softer while retaining the natural luminosity and character of damask.

The Fauna fabric features a continuous design, with butterflies distributed freely across the width of the cloth. Each placemat is cut from a different section and may therefore display a slightly different composition from the photographs or from other pieces in the same set.
The position and size of the butterflies can vary, while the color palette and overall design remain consistent. This variation is not a flaw: it is an inherent characteristic of the fabric that makes each placemat individual and creates a coordinated table that never feels rigidly uniform.
The natural cream and raw linen tones make this reversible linen placemat exceptionally versatile. It can be placed directly on a wood, stone, or glass table or layered over a solid-color linen tablecloth.
On antique or natural wood, it creates a warm, understated, and tactile setting. Over a white or ivory tablecloth, the effect is lighter and more luminous. A taupe, soft gray, sage green, or lavender base provides a gentle contrast that brings out the woven butterflies.
