The two sides of the Fauna Giallo Placemat offer different interpretations of the same butterfly design.

Butterflies Woven into Pure Linen
The Fauna design is created on the loom and forms part of the structure of the textile. Changes in the direction of the weave cause the two faces to reflect light differently, producing the characteristic reversal between the background and the butterflies.
Since the motif is woven rather than applied to the surface, it retains its character over time. With use and washing, pure linen gradually develops a softer hand while preserving the subtle sheen of the damask weave.
The butterflies are distributed freely across a continuous-pattern textile. Each placemat is cut from a different section, so its composition may vary slightly from the photographs or from other placemats in the same set.
