Tea Towels
Linen tea towels — also called kitchen towels or dish towels — chosen for linen’s natural ability to absorb moisture, alongside pieces in linen blends and other compositions. Made in Italy, our collection features botanical prints, seasonal designs, and generous sizes that also work beautifully as oversized placemats or thoughtful gifts.
Italian linen tea towels, blends, and other compositions
Our collection brings together pieces from L'Arcolaio, La Bottega di Casa, Tessitura Toscana Telerie, and The NapKing. Most designs are made from linen; some are linen blends, linen-cotton mixes, or other compositions, always specified on the individual product page.
Flowers, fruit, animals, graphic motifs, and seasonal designs turn an everyday kitchen textile — whether you call it a tea towel, kitchen towel, or dish towel — into a visible part of the kitchen. When choosing, compare fiber, size, brand, print, and care instructions rather than assuming every piece is 100% linen.
We curate this multi-brand selection ourselves, from our atelier in Follina, Italy. Not every fabric here is produced by La Bottega di Casa, but every maker in this collection is chosen and vetted directly by our team.
Why linen works so well in the kitchen
Linen is one of the most valued natural fibers for its ability to absorb moisture. That's why it's widely used in linen tea towels for drying glasses and dishes, and why it fits so naturally into everyday kitchen routines.
Actual performance also depends on the weave and finishing. A printed linen tea towel, a linen blend, and a linen-cotton fabric can feel and behave differently. Composition and care instructions for each specific piece remain the most important details before you buy.
Botanical prints and collections to mix
If you're looking for printed linen tea towels, choose from botanical illustrations, nature-inspired series, fruit, animals, and seasonal motifs. Cleome, Datura Rosa, and Magnolia interpret three different flowers, each with its own composition; the Pappagallo series lets you combine several subjects from the same family.
From tea towel to oversized placemat
Many of our designs also work beautifully at the table. The more generous formats are larger than most traditional placemats, leaving room for a plate, flatware, and a glass while still showing off part of the design.
Our Cleome tea towel shows this double use clearly: hung in the kitchen, it works as a tea towel; laid flat at a place setting, it becomes an oversized linen placemat. For table use, choose a clean piece dedicated to that purpose, and check that the print placement and size suit your table setting.
If you'd rather have a format designed specifically for the table, browse our placemat collection. A tea towel offers a larger, more relaxed alternative; a dedicated placemat has proportions and finishing developed specifically for setting the table.
Linen tea towels as gifts
A printed linen tea towel makes a useful, easy-to-personalize gift suited to many occasions: a dinner invitation, a housewarming, a birthday, a holiday, or a small thank-you. They can be given individually or gathered into pairs and small sets.
For a botanical gift, pair two flowers from the same palette; for a country-house feel, choose fruit, animal, or nature-inspired motifs; for Christmas and fall, look for seasonal designs like Natalia 1 or Caccia 1. A coordinated kitchen set can bring together pieces from the same series, or different prints tied by a shared color.
With an apron, and at the table
Some tea towels with a button loop can be paired with our linen apron with interchangeable tea towel. Switching the print gives the same apron a completely different look, matching the season or the table you've set.
Many of our prints also pair with our table linens and printed tablecloths. The pairing can pick up the same print or just one shared color, letting the tea towel and tablecloth keep their own distinct roles.
Choosing the right size and design
The most common sizes in this collection are:
- 50 × 70 cm (about 19.5 × 27.5 in) — a generous but more compact size, common across several collections
- 55 × 75 cm (about 21.5 × 29.5 in) — a larger format, also well suited to vertical illustrations
Sizes vary by piece — always check the individual product page. If you plan to use a tea towel as a placemat, check your available table space and where the design falls relative to the plate. For a gift, think instead about the recipient's taste, the occasion, and whether a matching pair makes sense.
Caring for your linen tea towels
Always follow the sewn-in label and the product page instructions. Temperature, drying, and ironing can vary between linen, linen blends, other mixes, colors, and prints. Our Care & Washing guide offers general guidance, but doesn't replace the instructions for your specific piece.
If a tea towel is also used as a placemat, wash it before returning it to kitchen use, and keep the two uses separate within the same use cycle.

FAQ
Are all your tea towels made of linen? Most are, but the collection also includes linen blends, linen-cotton mixes, and other compositions. Check the fiber content on each individual product page.
Why is linen good for kitchen towels? Linen is a natural fiber prized for its ability to absorb moisture. Weave and finishing still affect performance, so the composition and care instructions on each product remain your best reference.
Tea towel, kitchen towel, or dish towel — what's the difference? Not much — these are different American English terms for the same type of kitchen textile. Our collection is mostly linen tea towels, designed for drying glasses and dishes.
Can I use a tea towel as a placemat? Yes — many of our 50 × 70 cm (about 19.5 × 27.5 in) and 55 × 75 cm (about 21.5 × 29.5 in) pieces work well as oversized placemats. Choose a clean piece, check the print placement, and dedicate it to table use for that occasion.
Do linen tea towels make good gifts? Yes. They can be given individually, as a pair, or as a small set — ideal for dinner invitations, housewarmings, birthdays, holidays, and thank-you gifts.
Are all tea towels compatible with your linen apron? No — check which designs already have a button loop, or can be ordered with the fitting needed for our apron with interchangeable tea towel.
