Description

The same bird, a completely different light.

Parrot 4 once again depicts the African grey (Psittacus erithacus) — but those who know Parrot 1 will find something unexpected here. The plumage is warmer and more nuanced, almost washed by the light of an autumn afternoon. The eye is golden yellow rather than vivid red. The beak carries reddish-brown tones. And the botanical composition is entirely different: not tropical nerines, but wild orchids in white and crimson-pink with brown petals, large teal and olive green leaves, white lily of the valley at the lower left.

It is the same subject seen in a different moment — as if the naturalist had returned to depict it in another season, in another light, in another garden.

The Fabric

Linen — why it is the right fabric for a tea towel

Linen is not just the most beautiful fabric for a tea towel. It is the most suitable one, for concrete reasons.

It absorbs up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet — it dries glasses and dishes without leaving streaks or lint, something cotton or microfibre fabrics cannot match. It dries quickly, reducing residual moisture and odour. It is naturally antibacterial — linen fibres contain lignin, which inhibits bacterial growth even after repeated washing.

And it improves over time. Every wash softens the fibres without weakening them — after ten washes a linen tea towel is softer, more absorbent and more beautiful than when it was new. Cotton does the opposite: it stiffens, pills, loses colour.

The linen we use for our tea towels is selected from the finest European mills — 100% pure, with no synthetic treatments.

How to Use It

Parrot 4 works beautifully on its own — but it is also the natural completion of the series. Hung alongside Parrot 1 (same subject, warmer and more contrasted palette) it creates an ornithological diptych: same bird, two interpretations. Together with Parrots 2 and 3, it transforms the kitchen into a complete naturalistic gallery — four designs, four characters, one coherent series.

As a gift: it is the most sophisticated piece in the series, with an autumnal palette that works all year round.

The Design

The wild orchids surrounding the parrot in this tea towel belong to one of the most studied and depicted botanical families in European naturalistic illustration — considered among the most challenging subjects to reproduce for the complexity of their petals and chromatic variety. Here their colours — white, crimson-pink, warm brown — create a soft contrast with the grey of the plumage and the teal of the leaves.

The composition has an elegant verticality: the parrot at the top, orchids to the right, large leaves to the left and below, lily of the valley as the final note. A design that reads from top to bottom like a story.
