Every placemat is cut from a continuous printed fabric, hand-cut and finished with mitered corners in our atelier in Follina. That means, while every placemat shares the same colors and pattern, no two are ever perfectly identical.

A different flower on every table
Placemats have one job: give each person at the table their own small space, without dressing the whole surface. The Panse’ placemat does it with watercolor field flowers (blue, ivory, hazelnut) that look painted onto the linen rather than printed on it.
It’s not a pattern repeated identically. The Panse’ fabric runs continuous, and each placemat is cut from a different point along it: two pieces bought together will look very much alike, but they’ll never be exact copies of one another. It’s a detail you rarely notice right away, and almost always come to appreciate later — when you spot that your placemat’s flower is slightly larger than the one across the table.
The print: watercolor field flowers, a La Bottega di Casa exclusive
The pattern is a watercolor floral linen placemat design: large blooms in dusty shades of blue, ivory and hazelnut, painted with a light, almost transparent touch where the color runs thin. It’s the same Panse’ print that dresses our tablecloth and our table runner — an exclusive La Bottega di Casa design, created in our own atelier and not available anywhere else.
As with all natural linen products, small fibre irregularities may be visible: slubs, weave variations, slight differences in thread thickness. These are not flaws: they are the signature of natural fabric, and part of what gives the cloth its character.
On the table, the placemat works equally well under a minimal setting (a white plate, a simple glass) or a more classic one, without ever feeling like too much: the natural linen ground leaves plenty of open space around the flowers.
The craftsmanship: a hand-cut linen placemat
Each placemat is cut by hand in our atelier in Follina and finished with mitered corners : the same tailoring detail we reserve for our tablecloths and our solid color napkins. On a small format like this one, the edge is nearly everything the eye meets besides the print itself, which is why the precision of the corner matters as much as the pattern does.

The service we’ve always offered in the shop
In our shops in Follina and San Miguel de Allende, this is the best part of the job: taking an exclusive print like Panse’, laying it over a neutral base, trying two or three different napkins, and watching with the customer for the one that makes the table come alive.
We don’t work in closed collections. We work in combinations. Panse’ is a design born in our own atelier; the napkins we style it with come from an Italian mill we select for the quality of its solid linen. It’s mixing the two that produces a table that doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

The solid-color match
Placemats paired with solid color napkins is the simplest way to complete the setting, and it’s also the combination we suggest most often for this print.
- Solid color Vintage linen napkins in Tortora, to pick up the warm neutral of the background and let the flowers do the talking.
- Sunset, for a bright contrast between the blue of the print and the burnt orange of the napkin.
- Cobalto, to deepen the blue already present in the flowers and push the table toward a bolder register.
- Grigio Perla, the most understated choice: a cool neutral that leaves the print as the table’s only note of color.
Dressing the whole table in the same print
For anyone who wants to dress the entire table in the same pattern, the Panse’ placemat pairs naturally with the Panse’ Tablecloth , the same design in a two-band layout or with the Panse’ Allover Tablecloth, with pansies spread across the whole surface, also available round up to 67″ (170 cm). Either way, the placemat works as a tonal second layer: a small lift of the pattern in exactly the spot where the plate and flatware sit.

Tableware, glass and centerpieces

How do you wash a printed linen placemat? Our Panse’ placemats are machine washable at 105°F (40°C).
For a crisper table, steam iron while the linen is still slightly damp. Avoid bleach, which would alter the depth of the watercolor’s colors, and skip the tumble dryer. All our advice is on the cleaning instructions page.

Italian atelier table linens, that’s what we make in Follina, one exclusive print and one Italian mill at a time. In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections; exclusive prints like Panse’, hand cutting, mitered corners; and we select, one by one, the Italian mills whose solid linen we buy to put alongside them.
Our real work isn’t drawing a flower. It’s placing that flower next to the right napkin, woven by different hands than ours, and making them work on the same table. We don’t sell closed collections. We build tables.

Are Panse’ placemats all identical or does the print vary? The pattern and colors are always the same, but each placemat is cut from a continuously printed fabric, so the section of flowers it carries shifts slightly from piece to piece. That’s why no two placemats are ever perfectly identical : it’s a feature of the product, not an inconsistency.
What napkins go with floral linen placemats like these? All of our solid color Vintage linen napkins work well, but the colors we suggest most often with Panse’ are Tortora, Sunset, Cobalto and Grigio Perla : from a quiet tone-on-tone to a brighter contrast.
Can you layer a placemat over a solid color tablecloth? Yes, and it’s one of the combinations we recommend most often: the Panse’ placemat set over a solid tablecloth, as the base for the Panse’ Tablecloth or the Allover version, adds a second layer of pattern right where the plate and flatware sit.
Do printed linen placemats need ironing? Not necessarily: stonewashed linen holds up well even with its natural creases. For a crisper look, steam iron while the fabric is still slightly damp.

Are these floral linen placemats good for a romantic but not overdone table? Yes — that’s exactly the balance we’re going for with this print. The watercolor field flowers bring a romantic touch, but the natural linen ground and the dusty color palette (blue, ivory, hazelnut) keep the table light, never too much.
