The service we’ve always offered in the shop

In our shops in Follina and San Miguel de Allende, this is the best part of the job: taking a bare table, laying down a runner, trying two or three sets of napkins, and watching with the customer as the table comes together.

We don’t work in closed collections. We work in combinations. The Pansée print is an exclusive design, drawn in our own atelier; the solid napkins come from the Northern Italian linen we select for the whole Vintage line. It’s mixing them that turns the runner into the piece a whole table gets built around.

On the Sunset tablecloth

Unlike a tablecloth layered over another, the runner doesn’t cover — it frames. Laid across the center of the Sunset Vintage Linen Tablecloth, it leaves the terracotta base exposed on both long sides, and the ochre and brown tones in the print pick up the burnt orange of the base without blending into it — while the blue flowers add a cool counterpoint. It’s terracotta table linens built from the center outward, not the other way around: the pairing shown in the photos on this page.

The napkins: four different moods

It pairs with solid color linen napkins Vintage, and the color you choose sets the mood:

• Tortora, for the quietest tonal match — the runner stays the lead, the napkins step back.
• Sunset, to stay within the same warm family as the base and close the composition.
• Cobalto, for the sharpest contrast: it picks up the blue in the flowers and carries it into the place setting.
• Grigio Perla, for a more neutral, contemporary table where the print is the only color note.

No tablecloth needed

The runner works on its own too, laid straight over bare wood — the way you see it in the photos of a rustic table by a window and a farmhouse kitchen counter. On light or aged wood, the linen’s natural ground almost disappears into the surface, and the flowers are left to do the work. It’s the most casual way to use it — perfect for breakfast or an everyday table.

Tableware, glass and centerpieces

• Tableware: white or sand-colored ceramics, natural stoneware, copper plates to echo vintage cookware.
• Glass and metals: clear crystal, copper, antiqued brass.
• Centerpieces: wildflowers, olive branches, citrus fruit, copper or ceramic pitchers.
• Rooms: light or dark wood, farmhouse kitchens, tables set near a window.

It’s the service we’ve been offering in the shop for twenty years, and going online didn’t change it.

Standard size

Made to measure — we make this made-to-measure linen table runner in other lengths on request, depending on fabric availability. Lead times are confirmed at the time of order and are normally no more than 10 days. Full details on our custom made items page.

For a quote we need two things: the length you’d like and the width of your table. If you’re unsure, tell us — we’ll work it out.

This is a washable linen table runner, machine washable at 105°F (40°C). Do not tumble dry.

For a crisper look, steam iron while the linen is still slightly damp; for a more relaxed one, let it air dry.

Avoid harsh detergents and bleach, which would alter the depth of the colors. All our advice is on the cleaning instructions page.

La Bottega di Casa began in Follina, in the Prosecco Hills north of Venice. Since the early 2000s we’ve also had a shop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and we ship worldwide.

We do two things. In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections: exclusive prints like Pansé, hand cutting, mitered corners, sizes on request. And we select — one by one — the Italian mills we love: the solid Northern Italian linen we use for our Vintage napkins, the handlooms and jacquards of the other weavers we work with.

This runner is a linen table runner made in Italy, designed entirely in-house: the print, the cut, the finish. But the real work is something else: bringing together fabrics made by different hands and making them work on the same table. We don’t sell closed collections. We build tables.

What is the Pansé Table Runner made of? 100% linen, with an exclusive La Bottega di Casa print, hand-cut and finished with mitered corners in our atelier in Follina.

Why is every Pansé table runner different? Because it’s cut from a continuous print: the colors and composition are always the same, but the point along the printed cloth where each piece is cut changes from one runner to the next. It’s the same principle behind our Pansée placemats.

What napkins go with a floral table runner? Our solid color linen napkins Vintage, in four colors built for four different moods: Tortora for tone on tone, Sunset to stay in the same warm family, Cobalto to contrast with the blues in the print, Grigio Perla for a more neutral table.

Can you layer a table runner over a solid tablecloth? Yes, and it’s the pairing we feature most on this runner. On the Sunset Vintage Linen Tablecloth, the runner frames the center of the table and leaves the base color showing on both sides — the opposite of a tablecloth layered on top, which covers instead.

Table runner or tablecloth for an everyday table? It depends how much you want to change. A full cloth transforms the whole table; a runner adds color and character in one move, even laid straight over bare wood with nothing underneath. For everyday use, especially on a table that likes to show its wood, the runner is the simpler choice.

Does a printed linen runner need ironing? Not necessarily. It can be used with its natural creases; for a smoother look, steam iron while the fabric is still slightly damp.
