Linen tablecloth Aphrodite

Price range: $176.19 through $293.26

Aphrodite is a damask linen tablecloth made from 100% linen — a handcrafted fabric produced exclusively in Italy by L’Arcolaio, one of the makers we’ve chosen for our catalog.

The damask draws a band of diamonds across the center of the cloth, in a grey-taupe that holds together the grey of stone and the warmth of earth. The edge is finished with a small fringe.

Available in three sizes, from the 71″ × 71″ square to the 71″ × 126″ rectangle for long tables. This tablecloth is not made to measure.

A damask that doesn’t raise its voice

Some tablecloths announce themselves; others are noticed later, when someone runs a hand across the cloth. Aphrodite is the second kind: a classic pattern — the diamonds of a damask weave — taken out of its usual color. No ceremonial white, no trousseau écru. A grey-taupe that reads almost like a solid at first glance, and gives up its pattern only when the light catches it at an angle.

The design

The damask draws a band of diamonds through the center of the cloth, exactly where the eye settles: the motif at the center, a clear field toward the edges for plates and glasses. It’s a classic design reinterpreted in an untraditional color — a grey taupe damask tablecloth made for elegant, modern interiors rather than for the formal table of another era. The edge is closed with a small fringe, which softens the border and lets the cloth fall without stiffness.

These fabrics retain all the characteristics proper to natural fibers, so irregularities and unevenness in the weave are not to be considered defects but rather evidence of authenticity and craftsmanship.

The fabric and the workmanship

Aphrodite is a pure Italian linen tablecloth in 100% linen, woven and produced exclusively in Italy by L’Arcolaio. Linen is a fiber that keeps working over time: it softens with every wash and falls naturally over the sides of the table. On a damask you see that twice over, because the pattern returns different reflections depending on how it takes the light — barely legible in daylight, lifting off the ground by candlelight.

Why choose it
  • A classic damask in a contemporary color: grey-taupe instead of ceremonial white
  • 100% linen, a handcrafted fabric produced exclusively in Italy
  • The pattern stays at the center and leaves the place settings a clear field
  • A small fringe finishes the edge, with no stiff hem
  • Up to 71″ × 126″ — an extra large tablecloth for long tables
  • A neutral that carries both white porcelain and dark ceramics
How to style it

The simplest approach is to stay tonal: Vintage solid-color linen napkins in taupe or grey, so the damask remains the only pattern on the table.

To lift the grey-taupe, one warm color is enough — clay, barbera, rust — folded straight onto the plate. That’s what turns Aphrodite into a linen tablecloth for the holidays without adding anything else.

Care instructions

How to wash a linen tablecloth like this one: gentle machine wash, no bleach, no tumble dryer. Steam iron while the fabric is still slightly damp, ideally on the reverse, and comb the fringe through with your fingers before laying the cloth on the table. About us and how we work

La Bottega di Casa began in Follina, in the Prosecco Hills north of Venice. Since the early 2000s we’ve also had a shop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and we ship worldwide. In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections, and alongside them we select, one by one, the Italian makers we love: Aphrodite is one of those choices — a linen damask by L’Arcolaio, produced entirely in Italy.
