Description

Mistolino Viola is not a printed tablecloth — it is a jacquard. The design is created through the intricate weaving of linen and cotton threads, alternating vertical bands of floral motifs in the toile de Jouy tradition—roses, dahlias, and wildflowers rendered with the precision of 18th-century botanical illustrations—with geometric diamond patterns that bring rhythm and structure to the composition.

The natural ground of the fabric allows the motifs to emerge with subtle dimensionality: the design is not printed onto the fabric—it is woven into the fabric itself.

The result is a tablecloth of remarkable elegance, equally at home on a formal dining table or in a more relaxed setting—on a terrace, in the garden, or outdoors—without losing any of its distinctive character.

The Fabric

Jacquard is a weaving technique that dates back to 1804, when Joseph-Marie Jacquard developed the Jacquard loom—the first programmable machine in history. It allowed individual warp threads to be controlled independently, making it possible to create highly intricate woven patterns directly within the fabric.

This is the same technique used to produce the grand textiles of European palaces, the celebrated silk fabrics of Lyon, and the historic damasks of Venice.

In Mistolino Viola, this centuries-old weaving tradition is applied to a linen-and-cotton blend—a combination that brings together the strength and freshness of linen with the softness and subtle luminosity of cotton. The result is a fabric that is both refined and practical, with patterns woven into its structure rather than printed onto its surface.

The Four Colourways

Grey / Black

The most understated and sophisticated version. The pattern emerges in deep charcoal grey against a natural background—a monochromatic palette that never sacrifices the richness of the design. It pairs effortlessly with any tableware and suits any setting, from a formal dining room to a relaxed breakfast on the terrace.

Violet / Blue

Two cool tones that shift subtly with the changing light: violet and soft blue. A romantic, Mediterranean-inspired colorway, perfect for outdoor summer dining, especially when paired with white ceramics or terracotta pieces.

Red / Pink

The most vibrant contrast in the collection. Deep red floral motifs are balanced by softer blush-pink geometric bands, creating a warm and generous palette reminiscent of Provençal textiles and the gardens of southern France. On a light wood or stone table, it feels like a celebration.

Green

The most natural and contemporary interpretation. Sage green floral bands are paired with softer green geometric motifs, creating a colorway that blends seamlessly with outdoor surroundings, foliage, and natural materials. The most versatile choice for those who love a table that feels fresh, organic, and effortlessly elegant.

Styling Notes

With Solid-Colored Napkins

The richness of the jacquard pattern is best complemented by solid-colored napkins. For the Grey / Black version, choose natural white or écru. For Violet / Blue, opt for ivory white or dusty blue. For Red / Pink, natural white or antique rose work beautifully. For Green, écru or sage green create a harmonious pairing.

With Printed Napkins

Mistolino Viola is already a complete composition in itself. Solid-colored napkins allow the woven pattern to take center stage, while printed napkins may compete with the richness and complexity of the jacquard design. Sometimes, restraint is the most elegant choice.
