A flower that defines an entire country — laid across your table.
The Lapageria rosea is the national flower of Chile. A climbing plant with leathery, glossy leaves and bell-shaped flowers that hang downward like crimson lanterns, dotted with white on the inside — a chromatic combination so precise and unusual it seems drawn from an eighteenth-century herbarium. On this natural linen tablecloth, the design is rendered at macro scale: the flowers fill almost the entire surface, the deep green leaves unfurl toward the edges, the fine tendrils create movement and depth.
This is not a tablecloth with a pattern. It is a tablecloth that is itself a botanical illustration.
The Campanella del Cile — Lapageria rosea — takes its name from Joséphine de Beauharnais, Empress of France and passionate botanist, whose maiden name was La Pagerie. Discovered and catalogued by European botanists in the eighteenth century during expeditions to South America, it quickly became one of the most depicted subjects in European botanical illustration for its unmistakable form and chromatic richness.
On this tablecloth, the design honours that tradition with equal precision and freedom: botanically accurate in its details — the veining of the leaves, the white spots inside the flower, the curling tendrils — yet monumental in scale, more fresco than illustration.
The Campanella del Cile is available in two forms: square 170×170 cm and round with a diameter of 170 cm.
The round version is designed for round tables — the design distributes itself in a centred and symmetrical way, exactly as shown in the photographs.
The square version is more versatile than it appears: it works on square tables of the same size, but also beautifully on larger round or rectangular tables, laid over a solid-colour tablecloth used as a base. In this case the Campanella del Cile becomes the visual centrepiece of the composition — a botanical insert on a neutral ground — while the base tablecloth covers the table and coordinates the colours. Among our solid linen tablecloths you will find the perfect base: écru, natural white, green, or any other colour that converses with the crimson and green of the design.
With solid napkins → The Campanella del Cile is already the protagonist — napkins should accompany, not compete. Natural white and écru keep the table luminous. Sage green echoes the leaves. Ceramic yellow or a muted raspberry echo the colour of the flowers more softly. Avoid highly saturated colours that flatten the complexity of the pattern.
With printed napkins → Best avoided — the macro botanical design is complete on its own. A printed napkin would create visual noise rather than dialogue.
