Description

Carpe Linen-Cotton Jacquard Tablecloth

The Carpe Tablecloth brings together contemporary Italian artwork and the depth of a finely woven jacquard textile. Large gold and red carp move across the cloth among translucent shapes reminiscent of stones seen beneath the surface of water.

The palette combines warm ocher, brick red and deep brown with quieter shades of sage green, mineral gray and ivory. The result is expressive yet balanced: a tablecloth with a recognizable artistic presence that remains refined enough for both formal dining and more relaxed gatherings.

Its design suggests the calm movement of water without becoming a conventional aquatic print. From a distance, the carp and softly layered stones define the composition. Up close, the woven structure of the fabric begins to emerge beneath the artwork.

When the Fabric Becomes Part of the Design

What makes the Carpe Tablecloth especially distinctive is the relationship between the printed artwork and the textile underneath it.

The cloth is woven from 50% linen and 50% cotton, a blend traditionally known in Italy as mistolino. Before the carp design is printed, the surface already features discreet abstract motifs created through the jacquard weave.

Because the digital print is applied over this textured surface rather than over a completely flat fabric, the tone-on-tone pattern remains visible beneath the colors. It interacts with the printed image and responds subtly to changes in light.

The close-up photograph reveals this effect particularly well. The woven texture continues through the carp, the translucent stones and the ivory background, giving the scales, colors and folds a more dimensional appearance.

This is not a heavy embossed texture. Its quality is quieter and more nuanced: the jacquard adds depth and visual movement while allowing the original artwork to remain the focal point.

The result is a printed linen-cotton jacquard tablecloth in which the fabric is not simply a background for the design. It becomes part of the artwork itself.

Italian Design and Textile Craftsmanship

The Carpe Tablecloth belongs to the same artistic textile collection as the Octopus and Medusa designs. Each piece explores the relationship between contemporary illustration, digital printing and Italian jacquard weaving.

The original linen-cotton fabric and digital printing are produced by L’Arcolaio. La Bottega di Casa uses this distinctive Italian textile to make the finished tablecloth in Italy.

The design, weaving, printing and finishing therefore remain closely connected to Italian textile culture and craftsmanship.

How to Style the Carpe Tablecloth

A tablecloth with this much visual character does not require an elaborate tablescape. White or ivory dinnerware allows the artwork to remain clearly visible, while transparent or pale green glassware echoes the colors of the water-smoothed stones.

Silver flatware or simple polished stainless steel adds light without competing with the print.

For napkins, we recommend solid Italian linen in the following colors:

  • Cream, for a quiet, luminous and natural setting;
  • Ceramic Yellow, to pick up the golden tones of the carp;
  • Aragosta, for a richer contrast that highlights the red details.

The 55″ × 55″ square tablecloth works well on a smaller square table. It may also be draped over a small round table, allowing the corners to fall naturally.

Another option is to use the square size as a decorative table topper over a larger solid linen tablecloth. A cream, light gray or muted green background frames the artwork and creates an elegant contrast between print, color and texture.

The 67″ × 106″ rectangular size allows the full composition to unfold across a dining table and gives the large-scale carp design a stronger decorative presence.

Suggested Pairings

Pair the Carpe Tablecloth with solid linen napkins in Cream, Ceramic Yellow or Aragosta.

Complete the setting with white or ivory dinnerware, clear glassware and understated silver or stainless-steel flatware. Natural wood, stone and hand-finished ceramics also work beautifully with the mineral colors of the design.

About La Bottega di Casa

La Bottega di Casa grew from a long family tradition in fine household linens and textiles. In our workshop in Follina, in Italy’s Prosecco Hills, we create table and home linens using carefully selected fabrics from Italian and European textile mills.

Our approach combines distinctive design, knowledge of natural fibers and close attention to proportion, construction and finishing.

The Carpe Tablecloth is made by La Bottega di Casa using the original linen-cotton jacquard fabric and digital print produced by L’Arcolaio. It reflects the qualities we value in Italian textiles: clear provenance, original artwork, material depth and craftsmanship that becomes more apparent when the fabric is seen and touched up close.

FAQ

What is the Carpe Tablecloth made of?

It is made from 50% linen and 50% cotton. The fabric is woven in jacquard with subtle abstract tone-on-tone motifs.

What does “mistolino” mean?

Mistolino is an Italian term used for a fabric woven from linen and cotton. In the Carpe Tablecloth, the blend combines the natural appearance of linen with the structure and practicality of cotton.

Why does the carp print look more dimensional?

The artwork is digitally printed over a textured jacquard surface rather than a completely flat fabric. The woven motifs remain visible beneath the print and interact with the light, creating a subtle sense of depth and movement.

Is the design printed or woven?

The abstract tone-on-tone pattern in the background is created by the jacquard weave. The carp and translucent stone design is digitally printed over this woven surface.

What sizes are available?

The Carpe Tablecloth is available in:

  • 55″ × 55″ (140 × 140 cm);
  • 67″ × 106″ (170 × 270 cm).

What napkin colors coordinate with the Carpe Tablecloth?

We particularly recommend solid linen napkins in Cream, Ceramic Yellow or Aragosta. These colors pick up different tones within the artwork without competing with the design.

Can the square Carpe Tablecloth be layered over another tablecloth?

Yes. The 55″ × 55″ size can be used as a decorative table topper over a larger solid linen tablecloth. Cream, gray and muted green are especially suitable background colors.

Where is the Carpe Tablecloth made?

The jacquard fabric and digital print are produced in Italy by L’Arcolaio. The finished tablecloth is made in Italy by La Bottega di Casa.

How should I care for it?

Machine wash at 104°F / 40°C. We recommend ironing while the fabric is still slightly damp and following the instructions on the product label.
