The service we’ve always offered in the shop

In our shops in Follina and San Miguel de Allende, this is the best part of the job: taking a solid tablecloth, laying printed napkins across it, trying two or three different designs, and watching with the customer for the one that makes the table come alive.

We don’t work in closed collections. We work in combinations. Magnolia Rosa, Ortensia and Datura Rosa are exclusive designs, drawn in our own atelier; our solids come from the Italian mills we select one by one. It’s mixing them that produces a table that doesn’t look like anyone else’s.

And Old Rose, in this game, is the common ground for all three: dusty pink table linens are what you buy once and keep using as you add new botanical prints over the years.

Printed napkins on a solid base

The simplest way to bring an exclusive print to the table without changing the cloth.

With the Magnolia Rosa linen napkins, our own exclusive creation — cut from the Magnolia tablecloth’s allover fabric, each napkin shows a different fragment of the same watercolor: dusty pink and carmine flowers, deep green foliage, faint grey sketch-flowers in the background. On the Old Rose base the print doesn’t jump out — it settles in, as if cut from the same cloth as the tablecloth itself. Finish with white or ivory ceramics and clear crystal.

With the Ortensia linen napkin, our own exclusive creation — the composition is fixed, identical on every piece, ideal for a coordinated set of six or eight. The pink, mauve and cream-white hydrangeas play tone-on-tone against Old Rose, but lighter and fresher: the tablecloth is the warmer, more muted layer, the napkin the brighter one. It’s the right pairing for a spring brunch or a garden tea.

Layering: Datura Rosa

The Datura Rosa design — large pendant trumpet flowers in dusty pink, lilac and white on natural linen — is cut from the same cloth for both the tablecloth and the runner, and finds a second register in Old Rose beyond the natural base it’s usually shown with.

With the Datura Rosa table runner, our own exclusive creation — laid down the center of the Old Rose cloth, the runner carries the garden over a warm base instead of a neutral one: the pinks and lilacs of the print blend into the tablecloth, while the sage-green foliage supplies the contrast that holds the composition together. Every runner is a one-of-a-kind piece, cut from a different point of the continuous weave.

With the Datura Rosa linen tablecloth, our own exclusive creation — for anyone who wants the print to be the main event: the central strip of hanging flowers becomes the textile centerpiece, and Old Rose stays in play through the napkins, either solid or Ortensia, to close the palette without overloading it.

The solid-color set

The simplest route, whether you want to stay tone-on-tone or build a contrast.

• Rooms: light or weathered wood, natural stone, pale plaster walls, outdoor terraces among olive trees and lavender.

It’s a color that holds up as well set indoors as it does outside on stone or raw wood: it shifts with the light, not with the effort.

Standard sizes

Made to measure — we make this made-to-measure round tablecloth and any rectangular size, in any length and any diameter, up to a maximum width or diameter of 106″ (270 cm). Lead times are confirmed at the time of order and are normally no more than 10 days. Full details on our custom made items page.

For a quote we need three things: the shape of your table, the measurements of the top (or the diameter), and the drop you’d like. If you’re unsure about the drop, tell us — we’ll work it out.

This is a machine washable linen tablecloth: wash at 105 °F (40 °C), do not tumble dry.

For a crisper table, steam iron while the linen is still slightly damp. For a more relaxed one, let it air dry and use it with its creases — on old rose they stay soft, never as sharp as they’d look on a darker solid.

Avoid harsh detergents and bleach, which would alter the depth of the color. All our advice is on the cleaning instructions page.

In our own atelier we design and make the La Bottega di Casa collections: exclusive prints like Magnolia Rosa, Ortensia and Datura Rosa, hand cutting, mitered corners, sizes on request. And we select — one by one — the Italian mills we love: the solid Northern Italian linen this tablecloth is made from, and the handlooms of the other weavers we work with.

We are, at heart, makers of hand-cut linen tablecloths from Italy — but the real work is something else: bringing together fabrics and prints from different sources and making them work on the same table. We don’t sell closed collections. We build tables.

What is the Vintage Old Rose Tablecloth made of? 100% stonewashed linen, woven by an outstanding mill in Northern Italy and finished in our atelier in Follina, near Treviso.

Is old rose a warm or a cool color on the table? Warm. It’s a faded pink that leans toward clay and terracotta rather than candy, which is why it works with wood, pale stone and the greens of olive or lavender. It shifts with the light — softer coral by day, more mauve in the evening — and screens affect how it looks online.

What color napkins go with a dusty pink tablecloth? For tone on tone, Vintage solid color linen napkins in the same Old Rose. To bring in an exclusive print, Magnolia Rosa or Ortensia napkins. For a soft contrast, Lavanda or Frosty Green.

Yes — old rose is a muted, earthy pink rather than a bright one, so it sits comfortably with garden pastels like Lavanda, Sand and Tortora, and with greens like olive or sage. The one combination to avoid is a brighter, candy pink, which flattens both tones.

Does it need ironing? Not necessarily. Stonewashed linen can be used with its natural creases. If you’d like a smoother look, steam iron while the fabric is still slightly damp.

Does dusty pink linen fade in the wash? Washed at the recommended 105 °F (40 °C) without bleach, the color holds up well over time. Like all our stonewashed linens, it actually softens and improves with washing rather than fading unevenly — high heat and bleach are what typically dull a dyed linen, so avoid both.
