Description

If you have been looking for a striped linen tablecloth where the colour is genuinely part of the cloth — not printed on, not dyed after weaving, but woven in from the start — Patch Blue Green is what you are looking for. The blue, olive green, and gold stripes are created on the loom itself, by interlacing threads of different colours in a precise sequence. This makes a substantial difference: the colour is not on the surface of the fabric, it is in its very structure. It does not fade, does not crack, does not separate from the linen. It is part of it.

The linen used is a heavyweight artisan linen, produced by a weaving mill in southern Italy with a centuries-old tradition in linen production. It is a dense fabric with a visible weave and a substantial hand — the opposite of the thin linen used in industrial tablecloths. The stonewashed treatment softens it without losing the weight and character of the fibre: the result is a weave that falls with authority on the table, forms natural, generous folds, and carries the material quality that only heavyweight artisan fabrics possess.

As with all natural linen products, small irregularities in the weave may be visible — variations in the yarn, differences in thread thickness, natural fibre slubs. In a linen woven on an artisan loom these variations are more evident than in industrial linen, and they are an integral part of its character. They are not flaws: they are proof that this fabric is made by hands, not by machines.

Style notes

Patch Blue Green is a tablecloth made for the outdoor table — but not only. The first image shows it in perhaps the most beautiful possible context for a tablecloth: a long table on a Tuscan terrace, olive trees and cypresses in the background, the light of late afternoon. The blue, green, and gold stripes echo exactly the colours of the Mediterranean landscape — the blue of the sky, the green of the olive trees, the golden yellow of the wheat. It is a direct conversation with the landscape, not a quotation of it.

But Patch Blue Green works equally well in a contemporary interior: its bold stripes and the weight of the fabric give it the presence of a design object. In a kitchen with white tiles, on a dark wood table, or in a dining room with raw plaster walls — heavyweight Patch linen finds its natural context anywhere there is character and material presence.

Why choose this tablecloth

Because heavyweight linen woven with coloured threads is rare. Most linen tablecloths available today are produced from piece-dyed fabric — the raw linen is woven and then dyed. Here the process is the opposite: the threads are coloured before weaving, which guarantees a colour fastness and chromatic depth that piece-dyeing cannot achieve. The stripes have clean edges, the colours are saturated without being heavy, and the artisan weave gives each colour area its own distinct texture.

Because weight matters. On an outdoor table where wind is a factor, a lightweight tablecloth becomes a problem. Heavyweight Patch linen stays where it is — the drop is generous, the folds are natural, the fabric does not move. On a very long table, where a lighter cloth tends to slide, the weight is a concrete advantage.

Because Patch Blue Green is finished by La Bottega di Casa with the same care given to all our tablecloths: hand-cut with mitered corners in our atelier in Follina (Treviso). Artisan fabric from southern Italy, sartorial finishing from the north: Italian textile excellence in two acts.

Complete the table

White is the ideal companion for Patch Blue Green: white plates, white soup tureens, raw white ceramics. The contrast between white ceramics and the blue-green stripes of the linen is clean, Mediterranean, timeless. Transparent crystal catches the nuances of the blue and green. Solid-colour linen napkins — in cornflower blue or olive green, one of the two tones of the tablecloth — complete the service with coherence.

For an outdoor table, a terracotta centrepiece with olive branches or aromatic herbs — as in the image — is the most natural pairing. The rawness of the terracotta converses with the rawness of the linen, and the green of the olives echoes the green of the fabric.

Craftsmanship and origin

The Patch Blue Green tablecloth is born from the meeting of two Italian textile traditions: the fabric is produced by an artisan weaving mill in southern Italy, using a technique of interlacing coloured threads on the loom; the finishing — hand-cutting and mitered corners — is carried out in our atelier in Follina (Treviso).

Two centres of excellence, one tablecloth.

Frequently asked questions

Are the stripes woven or printed? Woven. The blue, green, and gold threads are interlaced directly on the loom during production — the colour is in the structure of the linen, not applied to the surface. This guarantees colour fastness and chromatic depth that printing cannot replicate. The stripes will not crack, fade, or peel.

Is this tablecloth suitable for outdoor use? Yes — it is one of the most suitable tablecloths in our catalogue for outdoor use. The heavyweight linen stays in place even in wind, the drop is generous and natural, and linen is a naturally durable, resistant fibre. As with all linen products, avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure to preserve the colours over time.

Can I order this tablecloth in a very large size? Yes. Patch Blue Green is available on request even for very large tables — it is one of the tablecloths in our catalogue best suited to large formats, thanks to the weight and solidity of the fabric. Contact us with your table measurements.

Is this machine washable? Yes, at 40°C (104°F). The stonewashed treatment has already pre-shrunk the fabric, so shrinkage on first wash will be minimal. Steam iron slightly damp.

How does this fabric differ from your plain vintage linen tablecloths? The plain vintage linen is a medium-weight linen, piece-dyed and stonewashed. Patch Blue Green is a heavyweight artisan linen, woven with coloured threads on a loom by a weaving mill in southern Italy — it has a denser weave, greater weight, and a completely different tactile character. It is as much an interior design object as it is a tablecloth.
